The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has honored Glenwood School Psychologist Ms. Shelby Thommesen with a “Those Who Excel Award.” Ms. Thommesen is one of more than 500 educators across Illinois recognized by ISBE earlier this month. She was honored with an Award of Meritorious Service in the Student Support Personnel category.

The Those Who Excel Awards annually celebrate educators who have made lasting impacts on the students, families, and fellow educators in their school communities. Awards are presented in seven categories: classroom teachers, early career educators, school administrators, student support personnel, educational service personnel, community volunteers, and teams. Ms. Thommesen was nominated for the award by her Principal, Ms. Cabrina Williams-Leneau.

Ms. Thommesen has worked in District 60 since 2016, when she started as a school psychology intern at both Clearview Elementary and the Waukegan High School -Washington Campus. She began working at Glenwood Elementary in 2017.

“I feel incredibly honored to have been nominated and selected as a recipient for the Award of Meritorious Service,” Ms. Thommesen said. “I am thankful for the opportunities I have had in Waukegan and the educators that I have gotten to collaborate with and learn from.”

Ms. Thommesen, along with the other winners, will be celebrated at the annual ISBE Those Who Excel banquet in May.
