Are you a high school student planning to apply to colleges or universities? The college application process may seem daunting, but breaking it down into manageable steps can make it much more approachable. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you understand what's involved and how these steps can benefit you:

1. Application Process
Complete and Submit Application: Most colleges and universities provide application forms on their websites under the "Undergraduate Admissions" tab. Filling out these forms is your first step in applying. Applying online streamlines the process and ensures your application reaches the right place.

Common Application: Over 500 institutions use the Common Application, which considers various factors like letters of recommendation and writing samples, in addition to GPA and test scores. The Common Application simplifies the application process by allowing you to apply to multiple colleges with a single application, saving you time and effort.

Coalition Application: Some colleges, like the University of Illinois (U of I), accept the Coalition Application.
Similar to the Common Application, Coalition allows you to apply to multiple colleges through one application.

2. Sending Standardized Test Scores
Send Scores Directly: When registering for standardized tests like the SAT or ACT, ensure you include the names of the colleges you want to receive your score reports. Colleges receive your test scores directly, eliminating the risk of delays or errors in transmitting scores.

3. Requesting Official Transcripts
Request via Scriborder: You can request official transcripts from your high school through platforms like Scriborder. Official transcripts are essential for colleges to evaluate your academic record accurately.

4. Letters of Recommendation
Determine Requirement: Check whether colleges require letters of recommendation and how many are needed. Letters of recommendation provide insights into your character and abilities beyond what's visible in your academic records.

Requesting Letters: You can request letters of recommendation through various means, including the Common Application, Naviance, or direct email to a staff member. Well-crafted recommendations from individuals who know you well can highlight your strengths and enhance your application.
