Waukegan Community Unit School District # 60’s annual district-wide celebration of Black History Month will feature an exciting new twist this year, when the District hosts a modern gala. 

This year’s theme is African Americans and the Arts, and will celebrate African American contributions to the arts. The free event will be held on February 22 beginning at 5 p.m. at the Genesee Theatre, 203 N. Genesee St.

During the event, families will have the chance to learn more about the birth of Blues, the Black Renaissance & New Negro movements, the Black Arts Movement, Hiphop and Afrofuturism. Families are encouraged to dress their best but there will be no dress code enforced.  Additionally, hor'dourves will be served.
