18 WHS Seniors Recognized as Illinois State Scholars

Eighteen members of the Waukegan High School Class of 2024 have been recognized by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) as “Illinois State Scholars.” The honor is given annually to students across the state for their exceptional academic achievement. 


State Scholar designation is based on ACT or SAT scores, unweighted class rank, and Grade Point Average. 


Waukegan High School awardees include: Nathan Caberte, Yarexy Carmona-Nunez, Jillian Castillo, Elia Dejesus, Julissa Figueroa, David Martinez, Melissa Martinez, Patrick Montalvo, Guadalupe Moreno Arreguin, Jennifer Orduna, Tava Perry, Ariana Porcayo, Guadalupe Ramirez, Jaquelin Sanchez, Manuel Sanchez-Garcia, Leslie Solorio, Valerie Vela, Anahi Zuniga.


According to ISAC, the combination of students' exemplary college entrance examination scores and record high school achievement indicate an especially high potential for success in college. To be named an Illinois State Scholar is an outstanding accomplishment that will be a highlight of the recipient’s academic record.
