Special Presentations

-Representatives from Bravo Waukegan gave a presentation detailing some of the organizations' work with Waukegan students during the last year. 


Action Items

-The Board of Education voted to authorize a request from the LuLu Rippberger Scholarship Trust Fund six (6) student awards not to exceed $2,000 per student and from the Allen Larsen Music Memorial Scholarship Trust Fund one (1) student award not to exceed $1,000 per student.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of classroom STEM furniture in the amount of $226,979, utilizing funds from the district's EIR (Education Innovation Research) Grant. The Academic Support and Programs (ASAP) team is requesting the purchase of STEM furniture for classrooms in six of our Elementary Schools and four of our Middle Schools.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the Condensate Vacuum System Replacement at Waukegan High School's Washington Campus. The estimated total cost is $60,000 which includes: Equipment, Demolition, Rigging as well as a 10% contingency. The condensate vacuum system at Washington Campus is failing. It is approximately 25 years old and both vacuum pumps need replacing. The cost to rebuild the old equipment will be approximately $20,000, but due to its age the recommendation is that it be replaced.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the purchase of Elevate K-12 not to exceed the amount of $345,600 to support the District's summer school program. The Academics Support and Programs team is pursuing an extension of services with Elevate K-12 for our high school summer school program due to the anticipated high number of students needing credit recovery and the number of sections needed to staff.  The agreement allows WPS60 to reserve a minimum number of classes as well as a maximum threshold to be utilized based on summer enrollment.

-The Board of Education voted to approve the AIG renewal proposal for Student Accident and Athletic Catastrophic Accident Insurance (as required under Illinois School Code 105 ILCS 5/22-15), at a cost of $3,876.


Personnel Items

The Board of Education voted to approve the appointments, retirements and resignations of 11 employees.

The Board of Education voted to increase TRS/IMRF markup and health care contributions equal to Director level entitlements for all Assistant Directors, Coordinators and Academic Chairs. Proposed fiscal impact of Director level entitlements for Assistant Directors, Coordinators and Academic Chairs is approximately $327,552.

-The Board of Education voted to approve a virtual professional development opportunity for Abbott Middle School teacher, Denise Dunlop in the amount of $1,795 to attend a virtual professional development session with Zentangle on May 14 to May 17, as part of the ARTCORE Grant.
